Men's Golf Finishes 2nd At Poplar Hill Intercollegiate At The Manor Golf Club

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University posted a final round of 300 Tuesday in men’s golf for 54-hole total of 885 to finish second among 14 teams at its own Poplar Hill Intercollegiate played at The Manor Golf Club located just south of Farmville. Gardner-Webb University won the event with its tournament-record 869 (287-286-296) at the impressive 7,214-yard, par 72 golf course, while Brendan Madden of Duquesne University took individual medalist honors with his three-under par and also a new tournament-record total of 213 (69-70-74) -- winning on the third playoff hole with a birdie after tying with G-W’s Ryan Bell (71-72-70--213).

Longwood was led by sophomore standout Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) with his three-round total of 75-70-73--218 to finish in a fourth-place tie individually among 75 golfers. It was Webb’s seventh top five effort in 13 collegiate events. Webb was followed by freshman Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) (74-71-76--221, t-9th), junior Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) (75-71-76--222, t-12th), senior Brett Chambers/Mount Sydney (Fort Defiance) (77-72-78--227, t-19th), along with sophomore Greg Brouse/Leesburg (Heritage) (83-86-75--244, t-49th).

The Lancers also entered three individuals, led by freshman Jed Rasnick/Roanoke (Lord Botetourt) (73-79-72--224, t-14th) and sophomore Allain Blanchard/Williamsburg (Jamestown) (81-83-85--249, t-54th). Senior John Rosenstock/Midlothian (Midlothian) only played two of the three rounds due to injury, but posted a first-round 78 and a third-round 75. Longwood did post the tournament’s low team round with its second-round 284 on Monday, also a new tournament-record.

Longwood will compete again this weekend, September 14-15, in Piscataway, New Jersey at the 54-hole Rutgers University Invitational.
