Field Hockey Suffers 5-0 Setback To Lock Haven

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.-- Longwood University field hockey fell 5-0 to Lock Haven Sunday afternoon in Williamsburg.  The loss puts the Lancers at 0-2 on the year while Lock Haven improves to 1-1.  Longwood will return to action on Saturday, September 1, when they travel to Radford to take on the Highlanders in a 1 p.m. NorPAc conference match-up.
 
Lock Haven tallied its first goal 10:40 into the game on an unassisted goal by Blair Wynne.  The Lancers pressured Lock Haven’s defense but were unable to find the back of the net to keep the game at 1-0 heading into halftime.  Lock Haven wasted no time out of the break, as Wynne scored her second goal of the game to put Lock Haven up 2-0.                                                                                                     
 
Longwood was unable to stop LHU’s offense as Lock Haven went on to score three more goals to grab the 5-0 win.  Avanell Schmitz/Newport News (Denbigh) went the distance in goal for Longwood, making eight saves in 70:00 of time while Lock Haven was anchored by Ali Harris who saved two shots in 61:41 of action.  Harris was relieved by Erin Terreson for the final 8:19 of the game.
