WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Longwood women’s tennis team recorded its sixth consecutive win, in the 7-0 victory over Georgetown Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C.. The win was the Lancers (10-6) fourth shutout in as many games. Longwood will look to continue the momentum in its match with Campbell on Tuesday, April 10, at Lancer Courts.
Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) came back from a 6-7 game one loss to take the final two sets 6-2, 10-2 over Stephanie Cohen, to keep her streak of eleven consecutive victories alive. Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) defeated Courtney Olsen in two straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-3 while Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) handed Liz Winokur 6-2, 6-1 losses in the number three spot. Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) took Georgetown’s Kelsey Darnell to three sets, losing the first 4-6, but taking the next two 6-4, 10-6 for the win. Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) improved her record at the number five spot to 10-1, beating Briana Kearney 6-2, 6-2 while Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) rounded out the sweep in singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Shelly Murveit.
Longwood took all three doubles matches as Triebskorn/Davis defeated the team of Winokur/Gin 8-5, Bucur/Torrice beat Cohen/Olsen 8-3 and Simon/Melson handed a 8-6 loss to Kearney/Boyle in the number three spot for the sweep over the Hoyas.
