WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Longwood University men’s tennis fell in a tough 4-3 match to Georgetown Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C.. The Lancers (8-7) took two out of three doubles matches, but only won two singles in the loss. Longwood will return to action on Tuesday, April 10, when they take on Campbell in a 2 p.m. match on Lancer Courts in Farmville.
After Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) fell to Georgetown’s Anthony Tan 3-6, 5-7, David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) took a 6-4, 6-3 match from Jeffrey Schnell in the number two spot. Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) dropped their respective as Patnikov suffered a 1-6, 5-7 loss to Will Lowell and Lindsley fell 2-6, 7-6 to the Hoyas’ Adam Gross. Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) won the only other singles match for Longwood, defeating Etienne Paris 7-6, 6-1 while Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) collected 3-6, 2-6 losses to Kenneth Wong in the number six spot.
The Lancers had a strong showing in doubles as Garcia de Andoain/Cardoso and Heird/Lindsley each won in the number one and three spot while Patnikov/Barajas-Alexander fell in the two slot.
