FARMVILLE, Va.-- The Longwood women’s tennis team continued to dominant on the court Tuesday afternoon, grabbing their fifth consecutive win, third consecutive shut-out, beating Radford 7-0 on Lancer Courts. The Lancers win moves the Lancers to 9-6 on the year while the Highlanders drop to 9-9 on the season. Longwood will travel to Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 6, to take on Georgetown in an 1 p.m. match.
Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) bounced back from a 4-6, game one loss to take games two and three 6-2, winning her tenth consecutive match. Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) defeated Radford’s Camila Noldin in two straight sets, winning 6-0, 6-1 while Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) handed Ashton Downs a 6-4 and 6-2 loss in the number three spot. Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) followed up with a 6-0, 6-4 win over the Highlanders’ Cassandra Price and Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) improved her record at the number five spot to 9-1, beating Alexandria Spector in three sets winning game one 6-1, losing game two 4-6, but winning game three 10-8. Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) took a pair of 6-2 wins over Antonietta Iosue in the number six spot.
Longwood won two of the three double matches, as Triebskorn/Davis defeating the team of Milano/Price 8-0 in the number one spot and Bucur/Torrice beat Downs/Noldin 8-2 at number two. Simon/Melson fell to Spector/Edwards 8-7 in the final doubles match of the afternoon.
