Women's Tennis Defeats Liberty 6-1

Romana Bucur (L) And Lexi Torrice (R) Each Recorded Wins In The Match

LYNCHBURG, Va.--Longwood University women’s tennis earned a 6-1 win over Liberty Thursday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.. The Lancers swept doubles action and took five of the six single match-ups in the win. Longwood will return to action on Saturday, March 10, when they travel to North Carolina A&T in a 1 p.m. match-up.

Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) recorded the only loss in singles falling to Liberty’s Jonita Randolph 4-6,2-6 in the number one spot. Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) overcame a 2-6 game one loss to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-0 for the win in the number two spot followed by a 6-1,6-2 win for Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) over Liberty’s Daniela Dimas. Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) took a pair of 6-1 wins from Amiee Wood, while Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) and Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) each won in their respective matches, as Torrice beat Livia Branco 6-1, 6-3 in the five spot and Huddleston posted 6-1, 6-0 victories over Christine Pettit in the number six spot.

Longwood swept doubles as Triebskorn and Davis defeated Randolph and Ekaterina Kuznetsova 8-2 in the number one spot. Bucur and Torrice shutout Liberty’s Pettit and Wood 8-0 while Simon and Melson won their match 8-1 over Branco and Dimas.
