Men's Tennis Defeats Liberty 6-1

David Cardoso Recorded A Pair Of 6-3 Wins In This Afternoon's Match

LYNCHBURG, Va.-- Longwood University men’s tennis recorded a 6-1 win over Liberty Thursday afternoon, improving to 4-2 on the year while Liberty moves to 3-4 overall.  The Lancers were dominant in doubles winning all three matches and took five of the six singles matches from the Flames.  Longwood will travel to Gardner-Webb on Sunday, March 11, to take on Bulldogs in a 12:30 p.m. match.

In singles action Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) defeated Liberty’s Jarda Trojan in three sets winning the first 6-0, dropping the second 2-6, but winning the decisive third set 7-5 at the number one spot.  David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) handed Sebastian Pena a pair of 6-3 losses while Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) defeated Luis Olivera 6-4, 6-3 in the number three spot.  Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) and Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) each recorded wins in their respective matches while Jon Bair/ Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) fell to Liberty’s Fabricio Picanco 4-6, 3-6 in the number six spot.

In doubles, Garcia de Andoain and Cardoso defeated Simpson/Trojan 8-4 in the number one slot.  The teams of Heird and Lindsley and Bair and Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) recorded 8-5 and 8-6 wins in their respective matches.
