Softball Falls To Canisius 10-2 In Final Day Of Colonial Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Longwood University softball fell 10-2 to Canisius in the final day of the Colonial Classic hosted by George Washington in Washington D. C.. The Lancers (6-2) had their 3 p.m. game against George Washington canceled due to the cold temperatures. Longwood will return to action on Tuesday, March 6, when they host UNC Greensboro in 2 p.m. doubleheader.

The Lancers found themselves down 10-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, but were able to bring in two runs off a triple from Amy Betterton/Rocky Mount (Franklin County) with two outs. Ryan Washington/Bealeton (Liberty) started things off for the Lancers, hitting a single up the middle putting a runner on with no outs. After Kaitlyn McKeown/Gordonsville (Orange County) drew a walk to put runners at first and second with no one out, the Griffins struck out Longwood’s next two batters before Betterton came up and brought in Washington and McKeown for the Lancers’ two runs. The game was called after the bottom of the inning as Canisius was leading by eight. Catelyn Slagle/Chesapeake (Greenbrier Christian Academy) pitched the full six innings striking out five and allowing one walk.
