Blacksburg, Va.— The Longwood University women’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at #68 Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon. The Lancers now fall to 0-4 on the season while the Hokies improve to 3-0. Longwood will return to action on Saturday, March 3, traveling to Howard for a 1 p.m. match.
In the singles action Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) fell to Virginia Tech’s Ashley James in two sets dropping 3-6 and 3-6. In the number two spot Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) lost 0-6 and 2-6 to the Hokies Karina Porushkevich while Laura Simon/Manresa, Spain (IES Lluis de Peguera) fell in her two matches 1-6, 2-6 to Abbey Walker. Rounding out singles action was Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring), Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) and Lexie Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) who all fell in their respective matches.
In doubles Triebskorn and Mason Davis Richmond (Collegiate School) fell to the Hokies’ pair of Jessica Long/Walker 8-5. The team of Bucur/Torrice and Melson/Simon also fell in their matches, as Bucur/Torrice dropped 2-8 and Melson/Simon lost 5-8.
