RICHMOND, Va.-- The Longwood men’s tennis team defeated Richmond 5-2 Wednesday afternoon, earning its first win over the Spiders in Longwood history.  Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla ‘C’) set the tone for the Lancers, winning in the number one spot  in both singles and doubles.  The Lancers will return to action on Thursday, March 1 as they take on Hampden-Sydney for a 3 p.m. match-up.    
Garcia de Andoain defeated Richmond’s Doug Banker in two sets taking 7-5 and 6-1 games while David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) defeated Bobby McNally 7-6, 6-3.  Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) battled the Spiders’ Chris Louis to three sets, taking game one 6-4 before falling in game two 2-6 and the tie breaker 4-10.  Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) each won their respective matches, as Patnikov defeated Sami Belakhlef in three sets winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 and Heird beat Matt Stillwagon in two straight sets 6-1, 6-1.  Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) rounded out the singles action and fell to Richmond’s Charlie Seltzer 2-6, 6-2, 2-6.   
In doubles Garcia de Andoain/Cardoso defeated the Spider team of Stilllwagon/McNally 8-6 while Lindsley/Heird handed Mike Sommer/Banker a 9-7 loss.  Barajas-Alexander/Patnikov fell in the number three spot to Louis/David Berry 2-8.
