Men's Basketball Falls At JMU 84-52; Plays At Virginia Friday (12/7, 7 p.m.)

Freshman Jeffrey Ryan Scores Seven Points In Nine Minutes Against Dukes

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Longwood University dropped an 84-52 men’s basketball road decision at James Madison University Wednesday night at the JMU Convocation Center in Harrisonburg. The Lancers (2-8) were led by junior Kirk Williams/White Plains, N.Y. (Woodlands) 16 points. The Dukes (6-1) were led by Abdulai Jalloh with 23 points. Longwood will play again on Friday, December 7, at the University of Virginia at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville beginning at 7 p.m..

Longwood scored the first basket of the game at James Madison before the Dukes scored 12 unanswered points to lead 12-2 at 15:10. The hosts extended the margin to 40-18 with 5:44 left in the opening half, and led 46-26 at the intermission. JMU shot 55% (17-21) from the field during the first 20 minutes as Jalloh had 14 points at the break, including 3-4 three-point field goals.

James Madison continued with its momentum in the second half and expanded the advantage to 64-27 at 11:51, outscoring Longwood 18-1 over the first 8:09 of the period. The Dukes led by as many as 45 points at 82-37 with 6:25 remaining after consecutive three-pointers. The Lancers were able to reduce the final margin of defeat with a game-closing 15-2 run over the final 5:48.

Williams finished with 16 points to lead Longwood, adding six rebounds while the only player to reach double-figures. Freshman Jeffrey Ryan/Beacon, N.Y. (Newburgh Free Academy) contributed seven points in nine minutes off the bench, including 2-3 three-pointers. LU shot 28% (18-65) from the field, including 14% (3-21) on three-point field goals, and 62% (13-21) at the free throw line.

Jalloh finished with 23 points (4-6 3FG) to lead James Madison, while Terrance Carter had 20 points for the Dukes. JMU shot 57% (33-58) from the field, including 59% (16-27) in the second half, making 50% (9-18) on three-pointers, and 64% (9-14) at the line.

It was just the third overall meeting between Longwood and James Madison in men’s basketball as the Dukes now lead the series 2-1.
