BRONX, N.Y. -- Longwood University men’s cross country totaled 462 points to finish 18th among 25 schools Saturday at the 99th IC4A Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, New York. The University of New Hampshire won the prestigious event with its 62 team points, while Ricardo Estremera of Albany won the 8K race in 25:35. Longwood completed its season in New York.
Longwood was led by junior Evan Kearney/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) with his time of 27:45 to finish 81st among 211 collegiate runners. Kearney was followed by senior D.J. Palmer/Chantilly (Chantilly) (28:05, 96th), freshman Daniel Cummings/Hampton (Bethel) (28:21, 111th), along with sophomores Ross Roberts/Powhatan (Powhatan) (28:29, 119th) Daniel Honey/Fairfax (W.T. Woodson) (28:39, 127th). Cummings ran a new collegiate-best time for the 8K (5-mile) distance.
Also running for the Lancers were freshman Dave Reed/Rocky Mount (Franklin County) (29:01, 143rd), senior Mark Anderson/Chesapeake (Western Branch) (29:15, 154th), and freshman Phil Kada/Arlington (Yorktown) (29:23, 155th).
