Men's Soccer Earns Four All-Conference Awards

Senior Keeper Brandt Youmans Earns First-Team All-ASC Honors For 2007

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men’s soccer earned four spots on the Atlantic Soccer Conference’s All-Conference Teams. Senior Brandt Youmans/Gaithersburg, Md. (Damascus) earned First Team honors, while sophomores Chernor Diallo/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) and Martin Vickerton/Derbyshire, England (Kirk Hallam Technical College) joined by freshman Harvey Headley/Coventry, England (Stoke Park) each were placed on the ASC Second Team. The Lancers will host the 2007 ASC Conference Tournament this weekend. Action will kick-off at 12 p.m. on Friday, November 16 with #1 Florida Atlantic taking on #4 NJIT followed by #2 Longwood facing #3 Adelphi at 3 p.m.. The Championship Game will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, with the winners of each game facing off.

Youmans has been the Lancers’ anchor all season, starting in all 17 regular season games, seeing all but 7:15 of action in net for Longwood. Youmans allowed 16 goals for a mere 0.91 goals against average, the top mark in the conference, while saving 51 shots for a .761 save percentage. Youmans tallied five shutouts during the season and earned ASC Goalie of the Week two times this year.

Diallo leads the team in assists, tallying four on the year. The second year forward has seen action in all 17 of the Lancers’ games and recorded 17 shots, seven of which made their way to the net.

Vickerton is one of four Lancers to start in every game this season. With three goals and one assist the defender is second on the team in points and goals. One of Vickerton’s three goals was a game winner in the 1-0 win over Radford back on November 3.

Headley stands at two goals on the season, recording the game winner in the 2-1 victory over North Florida and the second goal in the 3-0 win over Philadelphia. The first-year forward earned ASC Player of the Week honors one time this year, heading in the game winner to advance Longwood to the Championship game of the Lancer Invitational back in September.

Adelphi University junior Patrick Figueiredo was named the 2007 Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) Player of the Year today, in voting done by the league's coaches. A midfielder, Figueiredo leads the ASC in scoring this season with 22 points, collecting 11 goals in 17 contests for the Panthers, who earned the #3 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. In addition to Figueiredo, first-year Head Coach Carlo Acquista saw freshman forward John Koutsounadis earn the 2007 ASC Rookie of the Year Award. Koutsounadis put together an outstanding freshman campaign for the Panthers, collecting two goals and two assists in 13 games. The final major award winner of 2007 went to Florida Atlantic University Head Coach Kos Donev, who was named the ASC Coach of the Year. Donev led his Owls to the ASC regular-season championship with a 4-0-1 record, claiming the top seed for the upcoming ASC Tournament.
