BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Longwood University women’s cross country totaled 747 points to finish 28th among 28 schools Saturday at the 2007 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Princeton University won the regional with its 56 team points at the prestigious event hosted by Lehigh University, while Melissa Grelli of Georgetown won the 6K race in 19:50. Longwood will complete its season next Saturday, November 17, at the ECAC Championships in the Bronx, New York.
Competing in its first-ever Division I Regional, Longwood was led by sophomore standout Jacquelyne Chantry/Williamsburg (Lafayette) with her time of 22:54 to finish 103rd among 198 collegiate runners. Chantry was followed by classmate Kate Knupp/Edinburg (Central) (23:45, 139th), sophomore Laura Bland/Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde) (24:17, 157th), freshman Natalie Auble/Fairfax (Fairfax) (24:24, 164th), along with sophomore Melinda Lackore/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) (25:51, 184th). Each of the top five Lancers established new collegiate-best times for the 6K distance.
Also running for the Lancers were freshmen Mandy Ford/Powhatan (Powhatan) (25:55, 185th) and Paula Roberson/Glen Allen (Hermitage) (26:44, 186th); they, too, established new collegiate-best times for the 6K distance.
