BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Longwood University men’s cross country totaled 803 points to finish 27th among 28 schools Saturday at the 2007 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Cross Country Championships in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Georgetown University won the regional with its 42 team points at the prestigious event hosted by Lehigh University, while Robert Curtis of Villanova won the 10K race in 30:08. Longwood will complete its season next Saturday, November 17, at the IC4A Championships in the Bronx, New York.
Competing in its first-ever Division I Regional, Longwood was led by junior Evan Kearney/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) with his school-record time of 33:36 to finish 142nd among 201 collegiate runners. Kearney was followed by senior D.J. Palmer/Chantilly (Chantilly) (34:19, 157th), sophomore Ross Roberts/Powhatan (Powhatan) (34:37, 161st), along with freshmen Dave Reed/Rocky Mount (Franklin County) (35:28, 171st) and Daniel Cummings/Hampton (Bethel) (35:28, 172nd). Each of the top five Lancers established new collegiate-best times for the 10K distance.
Also running for the Lancers were freshmen Phil Kada/Arlington (Yorktown) (35:54, 177th) and Tyler Copley/Chesapeake (Western Branch) (36:22, 181st); they, too, established new collegiate-best times for the 10K distance.
