GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Longwood University women’s cross country totaled 25 points to finish first among 18 teams Saturday at the Hagan Stone Park Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Lancers won their first team competition of the season and were led by sophomore Jacquelyne Chantry/Williamsburg (Lafayette) with her time of 19:23 to finish fourth among 136 collegiate runners in the 5K race. Longwood will not compete again until November 10 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
In Greensboro, Chantry was followed by classmate Kate Knupp/Edinburg (Central) (19:57, 13th), sophomore Elizabeth Owens/Disputanta (Prince George) (20:21, 20th), along with freshmen Natalie Auble/Fairfax (Fairfax) (20:31, 23rd) and Mandy Ford/Powhatan (Powhatan) (21:00, 28th). Chantry, Knupp, Owens, Auble, and Ford each ran new collegiate-bests.
Also running for the Lancers were sophomores Laura Bland/Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde) (21:21, 35th) and Melinda Lackore/Virginia Beach (First Colonial) (21:34, 37th), along with freshmen Paula Roberson/Richmond (Hermitage) (21:42, 45th), Jamie Upshaw/Bowling Green (Lee-Davis) (21:58, 48th), Lauren Kuhns/Fredericksburg (Riverbend) (22:25, 53rd), and Brittany Long/Mechanicsville (Lee-Davis) (24:36, 96th). Lackore, Roberson, and Upshaw also each ran collegiate-bests.
