Men's Soccer Records 1-0 Loss At NJIT

Brandt Youmans Tallied Three Saves In The Contest
October 16, 2007

NEWARK, N.J.-- Longwood University men’s soccer recorded its fourth one goal loss Tuesday evening, falling 1-0 to NJIT in an Atlantic Soccer Conference match-up in Newark, N.J..  Longwood is now 3-7-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play while the Highlanders improve to 2-9-1 overall and 1-2 in the ASC.  The Lancers will return to action on Tuesday, October 23, when they host Navy in a 7 p.m. match-up.

Longwood wasted no time after the opening whistle to put pressure on the Highlanders’ defense, drawing two consecutive corner kicks in the opening 1:09.  The Lancers however were unable to capitalize leaving the game scoreless.  Longwood turned it on, with 25 minutes remaining in the half as senior Sean Harney/Chesterfield (Lloyd C. Bird) put Longwood’s first shot on goal that was turned away by NJIT’s keeper Josh Osit resulting in a corner kick for the Lancers.  After the corner by Harney, the Lancers were able to pepper three shots at the Highlanders’ net, all though were turned away by Osit.

The Highlanders were able to go ahead 1-0 on their first shot of the game, as Kayo Emojong tallied his first goal of the year on a cross from Kevin Blanco for the lead in the 32nd minute.  After a shot by sophomore Brian Germain/McLean (Langley) was saved by Osit, the Highlanders caught the Lancers in transition to grab the early lead.  Senior keeper Brandt Youmans/Gaithersburg, Md. (Damascus) came under heavy pressure in the closing minutes of the first half, as NJIT looked to pad its lead.  Youmans saved everything that came his way in the barrage of shots, to keep the game at an one goal deficit heading into the halftime break.

With 23:00 minutes remaining in the game, freshman Yaron Bacher/Marietta, Ga. (Walton) put a shot on goal that was knocked away by Osit, but bounced right Lancer sophomore Chernor Diallo/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) who put a shot high keeping the game at 1-0.  Longwood continued to battle but was unable to net the equalizer.

Youmans finished the contest with three saves while Osit recorded seven in the win.  The Lancers tallied seven shots while NJIT recorded four and held a 4-1 advantage on corners.
