PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—The Longwood University men’s soccer team suffered a 3-0 setback to Philadelphia University in Saturday afternoon’s Atlantic Soccer Conference match-up at Ravenhill Field in Philadelphia. The loss puts the Lancers at 2-7-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference, while the Rams improve to 4-5-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ASC. The Lancers will return to action Saturday, October 7, as they host District of Columbia in a 7 p.m. match at the new Athletics Complex in Farmville.
The Lancers found themselves down early on in the match as Matt Tompkins tallied his first of two goals just 5:39 into the match-up taking a pass from Sean Kennedy and putting it in the back of the net for the early lead. Tompkins struck 13:28 later netting his fourth goal of the season, giving Philadelphia a two-goal cushion.
The Rams added their final goal of the game at the 71:33 mark coming from Frederick Douglas. Junior keeper Brandt Youmans/Gaithersburg, Md. (Damascus) recorded three saves in the loss. Leading the way offensively was sophomore Adam Kotchin/North Hanover, N.J. (The Hun School of Princeton) tallying three shots while freshman Chernor Diallo/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) got off two in the loss.
Philadelphia held a 7-5 advantage in shots, while both teams recorded two corner kicks.
