BOX SCORE
Towson, Md.-- Longwood University men’s soccer dropped a hard fought 1-0 battle to the Towson Tigers Sunday afternoon at the Tigers’ Towson Center Field. The loss was the Lancers’ third loss by a 1-0 margin, putting Longwood at 0-4 on the season, while Towson improves to 2-0-1. LU will return to action on Wednesday, September 6, hosting George Washington for a 6 p.m. kick-off.
The Tigers were able to put a point on the board 21:30 into the match, as Angus Burke took a pass from Pat Healey and fired a shot 15-yards out that junior keeper Brandt Youmans/Gaithersburg, Md. (Damascus) was unable to stop for the early 1-0 lead. Youmans came off his line to cut the angle, but Burke put too much pace on the ball and put it the junior.
Led by junior Sean Harney/Chesterfield (Lloyd C. Bird) who tallied a game-high five shots, Longwood’s offense applied pressure all afternoon, but could not find the back of the net as Towson’s defense led by keepers Greg Flaherty and Billy Chiles, buckled down and kept everything in front in this afternoon’s match-up.
Longwood and Towson each got off 14 shots, while the Lancers held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Youmans recorded ten saves in net for Longwood.
