RICHMOND, Va. -- Longwood University totaled 60 points to finish second among three teams at the University of Richmond Alumni Open women’s cross country race Saturday in Richmond. Richmond won the event with its 15 points, while Spider Amanda Russell won the 2-Mile race in 11:32. The Lancers will compete again next Saturday, September 9, at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia in Earleysville.
In Richmond, Longwood was led by junior Kristin Novara/Winchester (Millbrook) with her time of 12:21 in the 2-mile race to finish 11th among 40 runners. Novara was followed by freshmen Kate Knupp/Edinburg (Central) (12:29, 13th), Jacquelyne Chantry/Williamsburg (Lafayette) (13:05, 17th), and Laura Bland/Las Vegas, Nev. (Palo Verde) (13:28, 19th), along with sophomore Sarah Chapman/Hampton (Bethel) (13:34, 20th).
Others running for the Lancers included freshmen Priscilla Sherwood/Newport News (Woodside) (14:30, 25th) and Sarah McCeney/Ruther Glen (Caroline) (15:34, 30th), junior Ashley Schoenwetter/Reston (South Lakes) (16:04, 33rd), and freshman Liz Ficarra/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne) (16:49, 39th).
