BOX SCORE
FARMVILLE, Va.-- Longwood University men’s soccer fell to the visiting High Point Panthers 4-0 Sunday afternoon at the new Athletics Complex in Farmville. The loss puts Longwood at 1-5 on the season, while High Point moves to 1-2-1. Longwood will be back in action on Saturday, September 16, when they travel to Richmond for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Spiders.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead at the 17th minute, when Chris Archer scored the first of his two goals, taking a pass from Cole Atkins and firing it past junior keeper Brandt Youmans/Gaithersburg, Md. (Damascus), who was coming out to cut the angle. High Point tallied two goals less than four minutes apart, from Hilaire Babou and Josh Windley, to put the score at 3-0 heading into halftime.
The Lancers pressed in the second half, looking to cut into High Points’ lead. Freshman Chernor Diallo/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) took a ball along the left sideline and dribbled in the Panther’s 18-yard box. Diallo sent a centering feed that bounced through before any of the Longwood players got a foot on it and was cleared out by a Panther defender ending the threat.
Youmans finished the game with two saves in 87:28 of time in the net, as junior Tyler Marsh/Mechanicsville, Va. (N.C. Wesleyan) came into relieve Youmans with 2:32 left in the game. High Point had the advantage in shots 10-7 and corner kicks 7-3.
