Longwood will play again on Thursday, September 14, at the University of Richmond beginning at 7 p.m..

Against The Citadel, Longwood controlled the action from start to finish and secured the outcome with two early goals. Freshman Kaylyn Mahon/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) tallied her first collegiate goal at 11:23 when she corralled a loose ball out top and blasted it into the back of the net from about 25 yards with the visiting keeper out of position. The Lancers quickly added another goal at 14:34 as freshman Sarah Fening/Manassas (Battlefield) took a pass in front of the net from classmate and former high school teammate Colleen Thamm/Manassas (Battlefield) and one-touched the ball to the right post. It was Fening’s team-leading second goal of the season and provided for a 2-0 advantage at the intermission.

Longwood added a third goal less than a minute into the second half when senior Tiffany Crane/Virginia Beach (Kellam) got her own rebound of a shot attempt and promptly headed the ball over the keeper’s head and into the net at 45:58. The Lancers continued to dominate the action but could not add to the margin down the stretch.

Longwood took a commanding 24-1 advantage in shots, and had a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.
