HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 5-2 women’s tennis decision at James Madison University Sunday in Harrisonburg. The Lancers are now 7-8 this season, and will play again on Tuesday, April 11, at Radford University of the Big South Conference beginning at 1 p.m..
At JMU, Longwood got wins in singles from sophomore Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz Gymnasium) at #2 (6-0, 6-0) and junior Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) at #4 (6-3, 6-1). In doubles, sophomore Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) and freshman Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) won at #3 (8-4).
Also playing for the Lancers, and falling in singles were junior Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) at #1 (2-6, 3-6), Melson at #3 (4-6, 4-6), Huddleston at #5 (2-6, 2-6), and senior Jessica Farr/Williamsburg (Lafayette) at #6 (4-6, 4-6). Falling in doubles were Bucur and Torrice at #1 (1-8), along with Triebskorn and Farr at #2 (6-8).
