In the opener, Longwood scored four runs on two hits in the first inning to take control of the contest. Freshman outfielder Danielle Skapura/Friendswood, Texas (Friendswood) gave LU the 1-0 lead when she scored on a throwing error by Norfolk State’s Cassandra Petway. The Lancers pushed their advantage  to 3-0 after sophomore shortstop Ryan Washington/Bealeton (Liberty) scored on a fielder’s choice hit by senior designated player Victoria Masters/Lake City, Fla. (Thomas University-Ga.)  and senior outfielder Shamana Washington/Rhoadesville (Orange County) crossed home plate on a ground out hit by junior catcher Pepper Wilson/Mechanicsville (Lee-Davis). Masters closed out the scoring for Longwood in the first inning when she scored on a single hit to right field by senior second baseman Mallory Gordon/Powhatan (Powhatan).

A two-run second and a four-run fifth inning by Longwood helped the Lancers capture the 10-0 victory for Longwood. The second inning was highlighted by a single hit to left field by Masters that scored Ryan Washington, while the fifth inning was highlighted by Hooe’s second double of the contest, and team leading 15th of the season, to drive in junior first baseman Tori Flint/Charlottesville (Albemarle County).

Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mills/Quinton (New Kent County) earned the pitching win for the Lancers, allowing only one hit, while striking out five in four innings of work.

Leekycia Brown took the pitching loss for the Spartans, allowing 10 runs, none of which were earned, on eight hits.

In the nightcap, the contest was scoreless until the sixth inning when Longwood scored one run to take the lead. Flint led off the sixth with a single to center field. (Chaparral) came in to pinch run for Flint, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt laid down by sophomore outfielder Kristina Garrison/Alexandria (Mount Vernon). Newman took third on a single up the middle by freshman third baseman Kori Bonner/Round Hill (Loudoun Valley) and scored when Hooe hit a single.

The Lancers added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to help secure to 3-0 victory. With Shamana Washington on third and Gordon on second, Flint hit a single to score both runners.
