Men's Tennis Defeats Georgetown 5-2

Junior Rashko Patnikov Earns Wins At #2 Singles & Doubles Against Hoyas

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 5-2 men’s tennis decision past visiting Georgetown University Sunday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville.  The Lancers improved to 6-8 this season, while the Hoyas dropped to 4-9.  Longwood will play again on Monday, April 3, hosting Liberty University of the Big South Conference at the Lancer Courts in Farmville beginning at 2 p.m..
    
Against Georgetown, Longwood won four of six singles matches with wins from freshman Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) at #1 (6-1, 5-7, 7-5), junior Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) at #2 (6-1, 6-2), junior Jon Bair/Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) at #4 (6-3, 6-3), and sophomore Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) at #5 (6-1, 7-6).  Also playing singles and falling were freshmen Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) at #3 (3-6, 0-6) and Roger Torres/Bel Air, Md. (C.M. Wright) at #6 (4-6, 0-6).  
    
In doubles, the Lancers won two of three matches for the team point with wins from de Andoain and Lindsley won at #1 (9-8), along with Patnikov and Bair at #2 (8-5).  Barajas-Alexander and senior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) lost at #3 (8-0).
