Women's Tennis Defeats Georgetown 5-2

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 5-2 women’s tennis decision past visiting Georgetown University Sunday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville.  The Lancers improved to 6-6 this season, while the Hoyas dropped to 2-7.  Longwood will play again on Tuesday, April 4, hosting Mary Washington at the Lancer Courts in Farmville beginning at 3 p.m..
    
Against Georgetown, Longwood won four of six singles matches with wins from junior Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) at #1 (6-2, 6-0), sophomore Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz Gymnasium) at #2 (6-1, 6-3),  junior Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) at #4 (6-2, 6-3), and sophomore Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) at #5 (6-1, 5-7, 10-6).  Also playing in singles and falling were freshman Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) at #3 (6-4, 0-6, 1-6) and senior Jessica Farr/Williamsburg (Lafayette) at #6 (5-7, 4-6).
    
In doubles, the Lancers won two of three matches for the team point with wins from Triebskorn and Melson at #2 (8-0), along with Huddleston and Farr at #3 (8-4).  Bucur and Torrice lost at #1 (8-6).
