FAIRFAX, Va. -- Longwood University took a 7-0 season-ending men’s tennis victory at George Mason University Saturday in Fairfax. The Lancers finished the 2005-06 campaign with a final record of 8-10.
At George Mason, Longwood swept all six singles matches while taking two of the three doubles contests for the team point as well. Winning in singles were freshman Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) at #1 (5-1, retired [injury]), junior Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) at #2 (6-2, 6-1), sophomore Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) at #3 (6-4, 6-0), freshman Roger Torres/Bel Air, Md. (C.M. Wright) at #4 (6-4, 7-5), junior Jon Bair/Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) at #5 (6-1, 6-1), and senior Tobi Guennel/Plauen, Germany (Albert Einstein-Gymnasium) at #6 (6-0, 6-2).
In doubles, Patnikov and Bair won at #2 (8-6), as did Barajas-Alexander and senior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) won at #3 (8-2). de Andoain and freshman Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) lost at #1 (8-9 [4]).
