ELON, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a 5-2 women’s tennis decision at Elon University Friday in North Carolina. The Lancers are now 8-9 this season, and will conclude their 2005-06 campaign on Saturday, April 15, at George Mason University in Fairfax beginning at 1 p.m..
At Elon, Longwood got wins in singles from sophomore Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz Gymnasium) at #2 (6-1, 6-3), and senior Jessica Farr/Williamsburg (Lafayette) at #6 (7-6, 6-2). In doubles, juniors Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) and Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) won at #1 (8-6).
Also playing for the Lancers, and falling in singles were Bucur at #1 (1-6, 2-6), freshman Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) at #3 (2-6, 4-6), Torrice at #4 (5-7, 6-7), and sophomore Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) at #5 (2-6, 3-6). Falling in doubles were Triebskorn and Farr at #2 (4-8), and Melson and Huddleston at #3 (7-9). Sophomore Jenny Kile/Richmond (James River) played an exhibition match in singles and lost 4-8.
