HONOLULU, Hawaii. – Longwood University dropped a 14-0 decision to host Hawaii in five innings late Wednesday evening in its second game of the Hawaiian Airlines Spring Fling Tournament hosted by Hawaii in Honolulu. The loss pushes the Lancers overall record to 9-9, while the Rainbow Wahine’s record improved to 10-8 overall. LU was scheduled to play Penn State today, March 9 at 5:00 p.m. ET but an onslaught of rain has pushed all of today’s scheduled games to tomorrow. All the games scheduled for Friday, March 10 will now be played on Saturday with the bracket play of the tournament scheduled for Saturday being canceled.
Against Hawaii, the Rainbow Wahine’s offense finished with 20 hits, and pitcher Courtney Baughman held the Lancers to two hits, while striking out five and walking one.
Hawaii scored two runs in both the first and second innings to gain a 4-0 lead. Tanisha Milca gave the Rainbow Wahine’s the 1-0 lead when she stole home, while Clare Warwick hit a single to right field in the second inning that scored Alana Power and pushed Hawaii’s advantage to 4-0.
A three-run third inning and a seven-run fourth inning propelled Hawaii to the lopsided 14-0 victory. The seven-run fourth inning was highlighted by a two-run double to left center by Kristi Yoshizawa.
Sophomore outfielder Caitlin Hooe/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) and sophomore shortstop Ryan Washington/Bealeton (Liberty) accounted for the two lone Lancer hits.
Sophomore pitcher Rachel Mills/Quinton (New Kent County) took the loss for Longwood, giving up 14 runs,13 of which were earned, on 20 hits, while walking one.
