FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University women’s lacrosse assistant coach Lynz Keys has been named an assistant coach for the Canadian National U-19 Team. The Canadian Lacrosse Association and Women’s National Team Program announced the four-member staff late last week. Keys will help lead Canada’s U-19 women’s team into the IFWLA World U-19 Championships, being held for the first time on Canadian soil in 2007.
“I am ecstatic to have been chosen for the position,” said Keys. “I feel honored to have been chosen amongst the numerous and highly qualified candidates.
“I am excited to work with such a talented and enthusiastic group. The Women’s Junior Canadian Teams have won bronze medals at the previous two World Cups, and it is the current coaching staff’s expectation that the 2007 team will be playing in the gold medal game.”
Keys, in her first year with Longwood, was a five-year member of the Canadian National Women’s Lacrosse Team (2000-05), after two years on the U-19 National Team. In 2001, she competed in the World Championships in High Wycombe, England.
Keys earned All-Region and All-American Lacrosse Conference honors during both her junior and senior seasons at Ohio. A two-time captain for the Bobcats, she was also named to Inside Lacrosse National All-American 3rd-team as a senior and was a Senior All-Star game participant.
“Lynz is an outstanding addition to the Canadian National Team’s coaching staff,” said head coach Janet Grubbs. “The team at Longwood is very proud that she has been chosen for this honor and we know it will enhance her impact here at Longwood.”
The coaching appointment begins immediately and will run through the end of the 2007 IFWLA World U-19 Championships. The Championships will run from August 4-12, 2007 at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.
