FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 7-0 men’s tennis decision past visiting Hampden-Sydney College Sunday in Farmville. The Lancers improved to 2-4 this season, and will play again on Saturday, March 11, hosting North Carolina A&T at the Lancer Courts in Farmville beginning at 1 p.m..
Against Division III Hampden-Sydney, Longwood got wins in singles from freshman Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) at #1 (6-1, 7-5), sophomore Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) at #2 (6-1, 6-2), freshman Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) at #3 (6-1, 6-2), junior Jon Bair/Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) at #4 (6-1, 6-1), senior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) at #5 (6-1, 6-1), and freshman Matt Bulkley/Severna Park, Md. (Severna Park) at #6 (6-0, 6-1).
In doubles, Garcia de Andoain and freshman Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) won at #1 (8-4), as did junior Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and Bair at #2 (8-2), along with Barajas-Alexander and Young at #3 (8-0). Freshman Roger Torres/Bel Air, Md. (C.M. Wright) also won an exhibition match in singles (6-1, 6-0).
