FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 6-1 women’s tennis decision to visiting Hampton University Thursday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers are now 4-6 this season, while the Pirates improved to 9-5. Longwood will play again on Friday, March 31, hosting Norfolk State University at the Lancer Courts in Farmville beginning at 2 p.m..
Against Hampton, Longwood got its lone win in singles from sophomore Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz Gymnasium) at #2 (6-0, 6-0), while juniors Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) and Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) won at #1 doubles (8-5).
Also playing for the Lancers, and falling in singles were Bucur at #1 (5-7, 1-6), sophomore Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) at #3 (4-6, 2-6), freshman Ashley Melson/Virginia Beach (Kellam) at #4 (2-6, 0-6), Torrice at #5 (2-6, 2-6), and senior Jessica Farr/Williamsburg (Lafayette) at #6 (0-6, 4-6). Falling in doubles were Triebskorn and Melson at #2 (6-8), along with Huddleston and Farr at #3 (4-8).
