Box ScoreWASHINGTON, D.C. -- Longwood University earned a 19-8 women’s lacrosse victory over host Howard University Tuesday, March 28 in Washington, D.C.. The win breaks a three-game losing skid for the Lancers and improves their record to 2-9 on the season, while the Bison fell to 2-8. LU was led by freshman attacker Kristen McLain/Springfield (West Springfield) who scored a career-high five goals. Longwood will be back in action Saturday, April 8 when it hosts Lafayette at the new Athletics Complex. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
Longwood, who held an 11-4 advantage at halftime, was also paced to victory by juniors Kathleen Barry/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) and Cathleen Strain/Alexandria (Mount Vernon). Each scored three goals for the Lancers.
Freshman Liz Sellmayer/Baltimore, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) and freshman Shannon Strain/Alexandria (Mount Vernon) added two goals a piece, while senior Ali Shafer/Fairfax (Fairfax), senior Emily Bikowski/Fairfax (Bishop O’Connell), sophomore Joyce Haines/Prince Frederick, Md. (Calvert) and freshman Lauren Barnaba/Bel Air, Md. (The John Carroll School) all tallied one goal in the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Emily Wilson/Owings, Md. (Northern) finished with 11 saves in the first half, while sophomore keeper Jen Holliday/Gaithersburg, Md. (Quince Orchard) made six saves for the Lancers in the second stanza.
