BOX SCOREFARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 18-6 women’s college lacrosse decision to the College of William and Mary Tuesday afternoon in Farmville at the new Athletics Complex. The Lancers fell to 0-5 on the season, while the Tribe improved their record to 1-0. LU was led by senior midfielder Emily Bikowski/Fairfax (Bishop O’Connell) who scored two goals, while William and Mary was paced by La Nolan with five goals and three assists. Longwood will be back in action Wednesday, March 8 when it welcomes Boston College to the new Athletics Complex. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
William and Mary quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead 14 minutes into the first stanza on two goals by Laura Lindsay, and one goal a piece by Nolan, Kara Parker and Emily Vitrano.
Freshman midfielder Ann Rae Keel/Westminster, Md. (Westminster) cut the Tribe’s lead to 5-1 on a goal assisted by senior attacker Ali Shafer/Fairfax (Fairfax), but William and Mary responded scoring the final eight goals of the half, including three by Collen Dalon.
The Tribe continued its scoring barrage as they scored the first five goals of the second half to give William and Mary the 18-1 advantage.
Longwood closed out the game with five-straight goals of their own, including two goals by Bikowski, and one goal a piece by sophomore midfielder Cathleen Strain/Alexandria (Mount Vernon), freshman attacker Kristen McLain/Springfield (West Springfield) and freshman midfielder Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster).
William and Mary took the 25-16 edge in shots, while forcing 17 Longwood turnovers, and taking a slight 18-17 edge in ground balls. William and Mary keeper Debby Petracca played all 60 minutes, allowing six goals and making five saves. Senior goalkeeper Emily Wilson/Owings, Md. (Northern) started and played 46:29, yielding 11 goals with three saves, while sophomore Jen Holliday/Gaithersburg, Md. (Quince Orchard) played 13:31, allowing seven goals.
