FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men’s basketball standout Clayton Morgan/Brooklyn, N.Y. (Fashion Institute) has been named this week’s Division I Independent Men’s Basketball Newcomer of the Week. A junior transfer to the program, Morgan (6-7, 230) helped the Lancers (10-19) to a 2-0 week with averages of 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 57% (12-21) from the field (1-1 3FG) and 59% (10-17) at the line. He posted his sixth double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds along with two blocks during the 69-66 road victory at Hampton Feb. 20, and followed with a near double-double of 15 points and nine rebounds with four assists as well during an 82-71 win at home against Savannah State Feb. 25. Through 29 games, Morgan is averaging 12.3 points and 8.6 rebounds.
Longwood has won three-straight games, six consecutive home games, and seven of their last 10 games overall. The Lancers will host Utah Valley State College for their season finale this Saturday, March 4, beginning at 3 p.m. in Willett Hall on-campus in Farmville.
