Men's Tennis Falls At Mary Washington 4-3

Junior Rashko Patnikov Wins At Both #2 Singles, #2 Doubles Against Eagles

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 4-3 men’s tennis road decision at NCAA Division III Mary Washington Sunday in Fredericksburg.  The Lancers are now 0-4 this season, while the Eagles improved to 3-1.  Longwood will play again on Saturday, March 4, hosting Howard University at the Lancer Courts in Farmville beginning at 1 p.m..
    
At Mary Washington, ranked 12th in Division III, Longwood got wins in singles from freshman Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) at #1 (6-4, 2-6, 6-4), junior Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) at #2 (6-3, 5-7, 7-5), and freshman Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) at #4 (6-3, 6-1).  The Lancers did win one doubles match as Patnikov and junior Jon Bair/Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) won at #2 (8-5).
    
Others competing in singles for LU included senior Tobi Guennel/Plauen, Germany (Albert Einstein-Gymnasium) at #3 (L 0-6, 4-6) along with freshmen Roger Torres/ Bel Air, Md. (CM Wright) at #5 (L 6-7 [5], 4-6) and Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) at #6 (L 2-6, 0-6).
    
In doubles, Garcia de Andoain and Lindsley fell at #1 (3-8), as did Torres and senior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) at #3 (7-9).
