FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University dropped a 6-1 men’s tennis decision to the University of Richmond Friday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers are now 0-3 this season, while the Spiders of the Atlantic 10 Conference improved to 5-7. Longwood will play again on Sunday, Feb. 26, at NCAA Division III Mary Washington in Fredericksburg beginning at 2 p.m..
Against Richmond, Longwood got a win in singles from freshman Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla) at #2 (6-4, 6-3) for the lone team point. The Lancers did win one doubles match as Garcia de Andoain and classmate Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) won at #1 (8-4).
Others competing in singles for LU included junior Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) at #1 (L 3-6, 5-7), senior Tobi Guennel/Plauen, Germany (Albert Einstein-Gymnasium) at #3 (L 4-6, 4-6), Lindsley at #4 (L 2-6, 6-3, 8-10), along with freshman Roger Torres/Bel Air, Md. (CM Wright) at #5 (L 5-7, 1-6) and Austin Brawley/Virginia Beach (Frank W. Cox) at #6 (L 5-8). In doubles, Patnikov and Guennel fell at #2 (4-8), as did junior Jon Bair/Hutchinson, Kan. (Buhler) and Torres at #3 (5-8).
