BOX SCORE

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University senior Tiffany Crane/Virginia Beach (Kellam) posted the first hat-trick of her collegiate career as the Lancers took a 5-1 women’s soccer home victory past visiting Mount St. Mary’s University Tuesday at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.  It was the third-straight win, and fifth in six matches for Longwood who improved to 8-4-2, while the Mountaineers dropped to 3-10.  Longwood will remain home this week to host United Soccer Conference rival Howard University on Friday, October 13, at the Athletics Complex in Farmville beginning at 4 p.m..

Against the Mount, the two teams battled to a 1-1 deadlock at the intermission as Crane tallied the first of her three goals at 7:21, assisted by junior Katie Young/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne) on an 18-yard shot to the right corner.  The visitors tied it at 22:15 when Karyn Farrar scored her third goal of the season for the Mountaineers.

Crane secured the match with back-to-back goals at 57:38 and 59:18, both unassisted scores -- the first on a nice move to beat the keeper and the second on a rebound shot from a saved attempt -- giving her the hat-trick and four goals on the season.  The Lancers added two late goals, each from freshman Colleen Thamm/Manassas (Battlefield) at 80:00 and 86:55, respectively.  Thamm’s first goal was a left-footed blast to the upper 90, and her second score was on a corner-kick opportunity that was served by classmate Brenda Cary/Bristow (Brentsville).  Thamm now has four goals on the campaign as well.

Longwood took an 18-5 advantage in shots, and had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.  Junior keeper Anne Whitmore/Charlottesville (Western Albemarle) (90:00) went the distance in front of the net for the Lancers with four saves.  Anna Lebo (90:00) also played the duration for Mount St. Mary’s with seven saves.
