DOVER, Del. -- Longwood University dropped a disappointing 1-0 women’s soccer road decision at Delaware State University Sunday. It was the opening United Soccer Conference (USC) match of the season for the Lancers who fell to 5-4-2 overall, 0-1 in the USC. Longwood will play again this Wednesday, October 4, at Charleston Southern University of the Big South Conference beginning at 3 p.m..
At Delaware State (4-8-0, 1-0 USC), Longwood allowed a goal in the opening minute of the contest and neither team could score the remainder of the conference match. Danyelle Brown tallied the game-winner for DSU at 0:54, assisted by Jori Victory. Junior keeper Anne Whitmore/Charlottesville (Western Albemarle) (90:00) went the distance in front of the net for the Lancers with three saves. Tara McQueen (90:00) also went the duration for the Hornets while making eight saves. Longwood out-shot Delaware State 12-7, and had a 5-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.
