BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University totaled 188 points to finish seventh among nine teams at the Virginia Tech/Festival in the Fields women’s cross country race Saturday in Blacksburg. Host Virginia Tech won the event with its 21 points, while an unattached runner (Elizabeth Abbey) won the 4K race in 14:42. The Lancers will compete again next Saturday, September 10, at the Virginia/Lou Onesty Invitational in Charlottesville.
At Virginia Tech, Longwood was led by sophomore Kristin Novara/Winchester (Millbrook) with her new personal-best time of 16:11 in the 4K race to finish 18th among 78 runners. Novara was followed by freshmen Sarah Chapman/Hampton (Bethel) (16:45, 31st) and Sarah Barr/Williamsburg (Bruton) (18:50, 63rd), sophomore Ashley Schoenwetter/Reston (South Lakes) (19:32, 65th), along with freshman Erica Storey/Scottsville (Tandem Friends) (19:44, 69th).
Others running for the Lancers included sophomores Caitlin Moore/Richmond (Stonewall Jackson) (19:46, 70th), Tiffanie Woods/Fredericksburg (Stafford) (20:42, 75th), and Brittany Wyman/Moseley (Clover Hill) (20:44, 77th).
