BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Longwood University totaled 219 points to finish eighth among eight teams at the Virginia Tech/Festival in the Fields men’s cross country race Saturday in Blacksburg. Liberty University won the event with its 29 points, and a Liberty runner also won the 6K race in 19:20. The Lancers will compete again next Saturday, September 10, at the Virginia/Lou Onesty Invitational in Charlottesville.
At Virginia Tech, Longwood was led by sophomore D.J. Palmer/Chantilly (Chantilly) with his new personal-best time of 21:12 in the 6K race to finish 52nd among 79 runners. Palmer was followed by freshmen Matt Gordon/Falls Church (Bishop Ireton) (21:14, 53rd) and Evan Kearney/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) (21:21, 56th), junior Chris Gibbs/Richmond (Lloyd C. Bird) (22:45, 72nd), along with freshman Neal Livesay/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) (22:54, 73rd).
Others running for the Lancers included freshman Chris Critzer/Dinwiddie (Dinwiddie) (24:45, 74th) and senior Matt Levine/Waldorf, Md. (Gar-Field) (26:24, 79th).
