The Lancers dropped to 2-6 this season, while the Retrievers improved to 5-4. Longwood will play again on Monday, September 26, at Liberty University of the Big South Conference in Lynchburg beginning at 7 p.m..

At UMBC of the America East Conference, the two teams were evenly-matched and battled to a scoreless first half deadlock. The host Retrievers finally got on the board early in the second half as Jessica Young scored with an assist from Andrea Perkinson at 47:09. “We played our best soccer of the year and lost 1-0,” said 12th-year head coach Todd Dyer ‘93. “I’m proud of the team, and proud of the progress that we have made this season. I just want to see it start to pay off in terms of wins for this team.”

Longwood took a 12-9 advantage in shots, and had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior keeper Heather Storrie/Spring Grove, Pa. (Spring Grove) played the entire 90 minutes in front of the net for the Lancers, yielding the lone goal while making three saves. Catie Bukowski played the full 90 minutes in goal for UMBC with nine saves.
