Men's Tennis Wins Third-Straight Match; Defeats Hampden-Sydney 7-0

Junior Tobi Guennel Wins At #1 Doubles, #3 Singles Against Tigers

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 7-0 men’s tennis road victory at Hampden-Sydney College Saturday.  The Lancers won their third-straight match, and fourth in the last five matches overall, while improving to 4-10 this season.  Longwood will play again Tuesday, April 5, at the University of Richmond beginning at 2:30 p.m..

At nearby Hampden-Sydney, Longwood swept the three doubles matches for the one team point, and won all six of the singles for the team shutout.  In doubles, sophomore Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and junior Tobi Guennel/Plauen, Germany (Albert-Einstein) won at #1 (8-3), as did senior Chris Newman/Chesapeake (Hickory) and junior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) at #2 (8-2), along with freshmen Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) and Ross McBee/Stafford (Colonial Forge) at #3 (8-3).

In singles, Patnikov won at #1 (6-3, 6-4), Newman won at #2 (6-1, 6-1), Guennel won at #3 (6-1, 6-1), Barajas-Alexander won at #4 (6-2, 6-2), Young won at #5 (6-2, 6-1), and McBee won at #6 (4-6, 6-1, [10-7]).
