FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University dropped a 4-3 men’s tennis decision to visiting James Madison University Friday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers saw their record drop to 6-13, while the Dukes improved to 5-13. Longwood will complete its season on Saturday, April 16, at Georgetown University beginning at 1 p.m. in Washington, D.C..
Against James Madison of the Colonial Athletic Association, Longwood swept all three doubles matches for the team point, but won just two of the six singles contests. In doubles, sophomore Rashko Patnikov/ Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and junior Tobi Guennel/Plauen, Germany (Albert-Einstein) won at #1 (9-7), as did senior Chris Newman/Chesapeake (Hickory) and junior Ian Young/Bowie, Md. (Eleanor Roosevelt) at #2 (8-5), along with freshmen Mani Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) and Ross McBee/Stafford (Colonial Forge) at #3 (8-5).
In singles, Patnikov won at #1 (6-4, 6-3), and Barajas-Alexander won at #4 (7-5, 6-2).
