FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Longwood University took a 6-1 women’s tennis victory at the University of Mary Washington Wednesday in Fredericksburg. The Lancers improved their record to 9-8, while the Eagles dropped to 10-7. Longwood will complete its season on Saturday, April 16, at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C..
At NCAA Division III Mary Washington, Longwood won two of three doubles matches for the team point, and took five of the six singles contests. In doubles, sophomores Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) and Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) won at #1 (8-4), as did freshmen Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) and Brittany Huddleston/ Roanoke (Cave Spring) at #2 (8-3).
In singles, Bucur won at #1 (6-3, 6-0), Triebskorn won at #2 (6-0, 6-0), Huddleston won at #3 (3-6, 6-1, 12-10), Torrice won at #4 (7-5, 4-6, 10-7), and junior Jessica Farr/Williamsburg (Lafayette) won at #6 (6-1, 6-3).
