FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University took a 7-0 men’s tennis victory past visiting George Mason University Sunday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers improved to 5-12, and will play again Tuesday, April 12, hosting Shaw University beginning at 2 p.m. at the Lancer Courts in Farmville.
Against GMU of the Colonial Athletic Association, Longwood swept all three doubles matches for the team point, and took all six of the singles contests. In doubles, sophomore Rashko Patnikov/Bankya, Bulgaria (Smirnenski) and junior Tobias Guennel/Plauen, Germany (Albert-Einstein) won at #1 (8-2), as did senior Chris Newman/Chesapeake (Hickory) and freshman Mani Barajas-Alexander/ Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) at #2 (8-1), while the Lancers won at #3 by default.
In singles, Patnikov won at #1 (5-7, 6-2, 10-7, Newman won at #2 (6-1, 6-2), Guennel won at #3 (6-1, 6-4), Barajas-Alexander won at #4 (6-1, 6-1), freshman Ross McBee/Stafford (Colonial Forge) won at #5 (6-3, 6-2), and the Lancers won at #6 by default.
