FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University took a 4-3 women’s tennis victory past visiting George Mason University Sunday at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers improved to 8-8, and will play again Tuesday, April 12, hosting Shaw University beginning at 2 p.m. at the Lancer Courts in Farmville.
Against GMU of the Colonial Athletic Association, Longwood won two of three doubles matches for the team point, and took three of the six singles contests. In doubles, sophomores Romana Bucur/Brasov, Romania (Joan Mesota) and Lexi Torrice/Richmond (Douglas Freeman) won at #1 (8-3), as did freshmen Elena Triebskorn/Heddesheim, Germany (Carl-Benz-Gymnasium) and Brittany Huddleston/Roanoke (Cave Spring) at #2 (8-0). In singles, Bucur won at #1 (6-2, 6-4), Triebskorn won at #2 (6-4, 6-1), and Torrice won at #4 (7-5, 6-1).
