FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University swept a baseball doubleheader from visiting Saint Peter’s Saturday at Lancer Stadium, winning 10-1 in the opener and 12-7 in the nightcap.  The Lancers took their first twinbill sweep of the season while improving to 6-15 this season, and will play the three-game weekend series finale against the Peacocks (0-6) on Sunday, March 13, beginning at 11 a.m. at Lancer Stadium.

In the opener, Longwood had 15 hits, including a school-record tying three home runs from sophomore Charlie Yarbrough/Richmond (Mills Godwin) (3-5, 5 RBI).  Yarbrough had a first-pitch, lead-off solo home run in the fourth inning, a line drive over the left field fence; adding a two-out, first-pitch two-run homer to left-center field in the fifth inning; finishing with a two-run line drive shot down the left field line in the seventh inning.  A 6-6, 255-pound first baseman, he has hit six home runs this season after hitting eight homers as a freshman.

Adding two hits each for the Lancers were seniors Chris Balus/Newport News (Denbigh) (2-4) and Robert Gillis/Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (Auburn Drive) (2-4, RBI), sophomore Tyler Childress/Montclair (Forest Park) (2-2), along with freshmen Louis Ullrich/Centreville (Westfield) (2-4, 2 RBI) and Nick von Gersdorff/Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) (2-4, RBI).  von Gersdorff hit his first collegiate home run in the seventh inning, a two-out solo blast to left-center field, while Balus and Ullrich each hit triples with Childress and Gillis each contributing doubles.  Freshman John Farrell/Nantucket, Mass. (Nantucket) earned the pitching win with the first 7.0 innings, scattering seven hits and one earned run with eight strikeouts.  
    
Saint Peter’s was led by Frank Salvano (1-4, RBI) who had a solo home run in the sixth inning.  Adam Myers (0-2) took the mound loss with the first 6.0 plus innings, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs with one strikeout.
    
In the nightcap, Longwood had 16 hits and led 12-2 through six innings before allowing Saint Peter’s to close the deficit with five runs in the seventh inning.  The Lancers were led by Ullrich (3-3, 3 RBI) and Balus (3-4, 2 RBI) with three hits each.  Ullrich hit his first collegiate homer, a two-out, three-run home run to the opposite right field in the fourth inning, also adding a double, and Balus had a first-pitch, lead-off home run to straight-away center field in the fifth inning.  Yarbrough (2-2, RBI) contributed a pair of singles in the second game.  Sophomore Alan Moore/Richmond (Monacan) (2-3) had the mound win while pitching the first 5.2 innings, yielding five hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts.
    
The Peacocks were led by Dennis Alexander (1-4, 2 RBI) who had two RBI, including a double, and Andrew Gitto (1-1, 2 RBI) with two RBI as well.  SPC’s Grevin Rodriguez (0-2) took the pitching loss with the first 3.2 innings, allowing 11 hits and eight earned runs with three strikeouts.
