NORTH DAKOTA STATE BOX SCORE
ORLANDO, Fla. – On the second day of the University of Central Florida Tournament, Longwood University softball earned a 4-1 win over North Dakota State, before its bracket play game against Boston University was postponed in the seventh inning due to darkness at 3-3. The contest between the Lancers and the Terriers will resume tomorrow, Sunday, February 20 at 9:00 a.m. Longwood, 2-3 on the season, will close out the tournament with a contest against either North Dakota State or host Central Florida.
Senior pitcher Jen Steele/Manassas Park (Manassas) held North Dakota State to two hits, while striking out four and walking three to help Longwood to its 4-1 victory. Steele and freshman Ryan Washington/Bealton (Liberty) led the way offensively for the Lancers. Steele finished the game going 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI, while Ryan Washington was 2-for-4, with a RBI and one run scored.
Against Boston University, the Terriers took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Lancers tied the game in the top half of the second inning when sophomore Pepper Wilson/Mechanicsville (Lee-Davis) scored on a sacrifice fly by senior Megan Camden/Bedford (Liberty). Two runs in the bottom of the second put BU back on top 3-1, but LU answered with two runs of its own in the third. Junior Shamana Washington/Rhoadsville (Orange County) doubled home Ryan Washington, while Steele followed with a double of her own to score Shamana Washington and tie the game at 3-3. After scoreless innings in the fourth, fifth and six, the game was called due to darkness. The contest will resume with the Lancers batting in the top half of the seventh inning.
