DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Longwood University dropped a 5-0 field hockey decision to Lock Haven University this afternoon in Davidson, N.C., to close out its 2005 season. The Lancers finished the year with a 4-13 overall record and a 1-5 record in the Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac), while the Lady Eagles finished their season with a 15-5 overall record.
Lock Haven jumped out on top 17 minutes into the first half when they executed a perfect penalty corner. Sarah Huber, who took the penalty corner, passed it to Renee Kemmerer who laid it off to the stick of Blair Wynne. Wynne blasted a shot past sophomore goalkeeper Avanell Schmitz/Newport News (Denbigh) for the 1-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles added two more goals before halftime to hold a 3-0 cushion over the Lancers. Nikki Sweger made it 2-0 at the 21:11 mark when she scored an unassisted goal, while Kemmerer tallied LHU‘s third goal on a penalty stroke at 27:48.
Mandy Daschbach and Mandy Alderfer closed out the scoring for Lock Haven with goals at 48:12 and 61:56, respectively. Daschbach’s goal was unassisted, while Samantha Stoyer was credited with the assist on Alderfers’.
Lock Haven held the 20-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in penalty corners. Schmitz finished the contest making nine saves for the Lancers, while Becca Yerkes, Ali Harris and Cheryl Edwards combined for the shutout for the Lady Eagles.

Six seniors closed out their careers with the Lancers this afternoon . The senior class included Sarah Hitchings/Virginia Beach (Kempsville), Julie Price/Stafford (North Stafford), Alexis Ramey/Westminster, Calif. (Marina), Shannon Ratte/Virginia Beach (Kempsville), Marina Sizow/Virginia Beach (Kempsville), and Echo Naugle/Virginia Beach (Princess Anne).
Hitchings, a captain this season, finished her career playing in 68 games. She scored 13 goals and assisted on 11 others for a total of 37 points. This season, Hitchings has scored three goals and assisted on one other.
Price has played in 60 games over her four-year career with Longwood and has 12 goals and 13 assists to her credit for a total of 35 points. This season she has tallied two assists.
Ramey has scored 25 goals and assisted on five others over 52 games for the Lancers. This season she led the team in points (15) and goals (7), while adding one assist.
Ratte , a three-year member with the Lancers, has scored two goals and notched one assist. She has made 10 defensive saves over her career, including a team-leading seven this season.
Sizow closes out her career playing in 56 games, including nine games this season. She has scored two goals and assisted on eight others for a total of 12 points.
Naugle played three years with the Lancers before taking on managerial duties this season. Over her playing career she saw action in 44 games, tallying 10 goals and three assists for 23 points.
